Letter from the Editor

Hibou Magazine centers itself around publishing academic articles by students in the humanities. This spring, we wanted to use academia to advocate and educate our community on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza that has been increasingly described as a genocide by many international legal, scholarly, and human rights organizations. Additionally, we wanted to shed light on the long history of occupation in Palestine.

A special thank you to Professors Andrea Rosengarten and Ziad Majed, who proposed the idea of a special edition focused on Palestine, in addition to reviewing the articles. Your expertise and care have been invaluable throughout this process.

Thank you to the following contributors, who have not only worked tirelessly to write and edit their pieces, but also taught all of us something new:

Darina Majed

Sasha Hayward

Aylin Yildizova

Thank you to our editors who worked over winter break and throughout the spring semester:

Emma Rhoda

Erin Gray

Amala Jenkins-culver

Sofia Pereira

Rita Duggan

Reem Rajab

Finally, a special thank you to the executive board, who helped in establishing the foundation for this special edition:

Reem Rajab: Managing Editor

Rita Duggan: Communications Director

We hope the articles in this issue provide readers with a foundation to properly engage with the crisis, whether it be currently and historically.

Sincerely,

Alicia Galarza

Editor-in-Chief
